Physical Health Leads to Improved Brain Development and Intellect, Researchers Report.

Can physical activity improve a child's overall wellbeing? Yes. It really is just good, common sense. Physical activity, exercise, sports; they all contribute to overall fitness, and fit individuals are generally more motivated and productive. Research shows that a child who plays sports is 8 times more likely to remain active as a young adult. Young adults are more likely to become academically motivated adults who in turn become lifelong learners. And lifelong learners raise children who play sports. And so the cycle begins.

In the following article, 24 researchers from eight countries found that physical activity benefits nearly every aspect of a child's wellbeing: physical health, cognitive ability, mental health, and social inclusion. If physical health leads to improved brain development and intellect, it seems a no-brainer to break down the barriers keeping our kids from sports and free play.
